Malcolm Duffin is a printmaker and artist based in Salford, United Kingom.
His highly expressive and gestural works combine traditional printmaking techniques with motion-based performance art. Using an adapted cinema usherette tray, he works with formal tools, ball bearings and found materials to make real-time ‘kinetic etchings’ of journeys across Manchester and beyond. Marks on the plates are made fast, expressively, and in the moment, responding to the movement of walking, climbing, sitting. All excursions are very different - a walk in the park, climbing stairs, a train journey, shopping, a trip to the beach. These field recordings are then transformed into both individual ‘source material’ etchings and scaled up into larger multi-layered screen prints - such as Wood For The Trees.
* Most of my work is for sale. Some, like the monoprints, are one-off works while others are made in small editions - usually of no more than 10. If you're interested in any of my works, contact me to check availability. Likewise, if you're interested in a special commission, collaboration or exhibiting my work - so am I. Get in touch and let's make it happen.
